You'll Never Believe What 10 Common Things In Movies Are Just Total Myths

Who doesn”t love a good movie? (Besides the Academy, of course.) As much as we enjoy watching films, it”s important to remember they”re not real life. Even some of the more reasonable things in movies can have totally fictitious origins.

Take these common movie myths, for example. You probably believe most of them…but why would anyone make these up?

1. Explosions aren”t that bad.

Explosions aren

What? Has anyone who ever wrote a movie gone near an explosion? Obviously not, because they wouldn”t be able to write a screenplay anymore. You don”t escape an explosion with just a little soot on your face. It”s a much bigger deal than that. (You can”t just walk away from one, either.)

2. Police have to read you your Miranda rights right away.

Police have to read you your Miranda rights right away.

Cops can wait until later to read you your rights. It”s not always while they”re slapping on handcuffs.

3. Tracing a phone call is hard.

Tracing a phone call is hard.

This is actually super easy. I mean, if Facebook knows where you are at all times, the police can easily find out, too.

4. You can just dismantle a tracking system by destroying one satellite.

You can just dismantle a tracking system by destroying one satellite.

Yeah, like an evil genius only has one satellite. Get real!

5. Every veteran with PTSD is on the verge of snapping.

Every veteran with PTSD is on the verge of snapping.

While PTSD is nothing to take lightly, that doesn”t mean everyone who has it is one trigger away from turning into Rambo.

6. Cops can”t do anything outside of their jurisdiction.

Cops can

There isn”t some magical boundary that prevents police officers from doing their jobs. It might make things more complicated, but it”s not a force field.

7. Hacking is easy.

Hacking is easy.

You can”t just slam your keyboard and hack into the Pentagon. It might not be as difficult as it should be, but it”s definitely not THAT easy.

8. Dinosaurs lived in the same time as cavemen.

Dinosaurs lived in the same time as cavemen.

Nope! As fun as it is to see our distant relative using giant dinos for transportation, that just wasn”t a reality. Their timelines were never even close to overlapping.

9. You have to wait 24 hours before you can report a person as missing.

You have to wait 24 hours before you can report a person as missing.

If you”re concerned about someone, be sure to call the police immediately.

10. Lasers come in a bunch of different colors.

Lasers come in a bunch of different colors.

If you had a real laser gun, you”d know that the lasers that it shoots are invisible. The colors that you see in movies just make it a lot easier to track where the shots are coming from. That said, we still don”t know who shot first. My money is on Han, though.

I knew movies weren”t real life, but wow. I definitely thought most of these were true. I”m glad I found these things out before learning of these film falsehoods the hard way. I wonder how many police officers have to explain to people that what they believe to be true is something from a movie on a daily basis?
